If you’ve hit this page that means you have keen interest in game development and searching for an easy peasy game development engine then let me tell you that you are on the right place.
RedEngine is another leading game development engine which itself is developed using C++ programming language. It is a project of CD Projekt and famous for their non-linear role-playing video games. RedEngine replaced the Aurora Engine that was originally under the license of Bioware and used for the development of The Witcher, CD Projekt Red previously took license from BioWare and started developing The Witcher.
The moment we start becoming conservative [and] stop taking creative risks and business risks, and stop being true to what we’re doing, that’s when we should worry. And I am not worried. Our values and our care for what we are doing and – hopefully what gamers would agree with – care for gamers is what drives this company forward. It’s my personal horror to become a faceless behemoth of game development or publishing or whatnot. As long as I am here I will be fighting for this not to happen.

RedENGINE 1 uses Scaleform GFx for User Interface (UI) creation, Havok middleware for physics rendering, and for audio it has used FMOD.

RedENGINE 2
Good news for the users of RedENGINE is that in this update, along with Microsoft Windows it provides support for the Xbox 360, OS X as well as for Linux. These mentioned ports were made using the eON Compatibility layer.
RedENGINE 3
REDengine 3 provides support exclusively for a 64-bit operating system, and also runs under the platform of Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
The purpose of CD Projekt Red to create REDengine 3 was developing open-world video game environments, the depiction of which we can see in “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt”. It shows the improvements to facial as well as for some other animations. Previously, the lighting effects seem to be suffered from reduced contrast ratio problem but in this version of RedENGINE this issue also has been fixed by CD Projekt.
REDengine 3 enables the advanced rendering of clouds, fog, smoke, mist, as well as other particle effects by supporting the volumetric effects. It also provide support for dynamic physics, high-resolution textures and mapping, as well as for advanced dialogues lip syncing system. A little shortcoming of this engine is that it is not able to provide high resolution textures due to limitations on texture streaming.
Furthermore, it comes up with a flexible renderer equipped for forward or deferred + rendering pipelines. It results in a wide spectrum of cinematic effects, including color grading, bokeh depth-of-view, as well as the most exciting feature is lens flares, which are associated with multiple lighting. Layers of varying material and tessellation have been used for the terrain system for easy blending.
